Interference gold; I love the name, and it delivers. At the bottom of this post you’ll see the same painting, in a different light. I know which one I prefer.
This painting masks a flaw in the wood panel board. Rather than give up on the board, I concealed the flaw with a plethora of brush work. Some people have reached out with compliments, but I have to say I’m not sure how I feel about this piece. Every time I approached the work I meditated on perseverance, seriously.
I took the reference photo while taking young students on a field trip to the Bloedel Reserve on Bainbridge a couple of years ago now. The foliage was so marvelously layered and rich that I felt I’d never be able to do it justice. I’ve changed the season by enhancing the browns and golds…but the maple in real life was truly so gloriously crimson that my own choice of color is not exaggerated. I’m not sure if the original tree actually has that looped twist…my own photo wasn’t clear on that account so I improvised, just as I improvised the ornate details to hide the flaw.
This post is about you finding your own preferences; contemplating what it is in your own life you might be trying to mask; and what it is in your life with which you need to persevere.
The photo below is the same painting, in a different light. Peace to all out there.
